The Fight For the Babearian

Kiefer the knifer looked at the oncoming boat and told the small man by his side to "hold them off, we shall be up ahead and once we have our pay for the small slave to be, we can wash our hands of these fools and live out our lives in peace in Ponos. " the small man with the goat like beard grinned : “of course. Easy street from here on.” And Kiefer and his other companion, who was holding Dave, ran ahead down a tunnel that was well lit. As the boat reached the shore, The group was greeted by the small man: " Greetings, as you can see, we are at an impass, I cant let you by, and surely you cant let me keep you… so i propose a battle of the mind, though simpler than magic in order to resolve our trouble in a safer and more peacable manner…" before him he had five goblets, creating a line in the dirt dividing him from the travellers. “we can all walk away no matter which glass we take, however two of them will delay our departure for a while. all I ask is that you choose a glass for each of us.” Floki started zoning out looking at the cups trying to analyze what possible layout for the cups could be best. Heracoal asked: “Do I have your word that these will not kill us?”
Hall Replied: “On my honor, may the demon princes eternally play with my tight tiny body if i lie, these will not kill us.”
Heracoal took a step forward to the cups and held his hand out to shake on it to seal the deal. Hall also stepped forward and grasped his hand over the cups. " OK, please make your—-" he cut off as Heracoal pulled him forward and clasped the Wee Folk’s throat in his other hand “Where are they taking him!?” Heracoal demanded. “-—— -- - -” Heracoal loosened his grip a bit. " cough On through the tunnels to sell him outside." Floki asked “which cups are poisoned?” the Wee Folk rolled his eyes; “I believe in fair play, I don’t know any more so than you do.” Floki asked " do you have any more poison?" as he dumped the first two cups out." the reply came through a coughing fit, " that was the last I had before needing to go resupply." Keeping on the matter at hand, Heracoal asked " And why did they take him?" the response came swiftly and full of the hope only found in an infomercial: “Its simple, he was a healthy well cared for child, the slave fighting rings pay a pretty penny for any fighters, and healthy children can be raised into some of the best. the pay from one good child can save a family from poverty or let a man retire in peace in a better kingdom in Ponos.” there was an almost childlike gleam in Hall’s Eyes as he shared this dream that he was longing for. It was replaced by a rather buglike bulging as Heracoal’s grip tightened and his breathing began to cease. Soon his lifeless corpse became heavier as it gained the weight that only the dead can truly carry before Heracoal dropped his corpse and headed down the hallway ahead. Floki dropped the torch on the corpse creating a small bonfire and followed Heracoal to retrieve their child.

After having defeated Hall, the group ran down the tunnel they had seen Kiefer flee to and saw him finishing strapping Dave to a horse and hopping on to ride ahead. Kiefer looked at his remaining companion: “Clearly that fool couldn’t handle this lot, be sure you don’t meet the same fate and we shall live out our lives as rich as kings!” The man at his side shrugged; “I don’t need that much, but if they bested Hall, they should be fun to mess with at the least.” With that he drew his scythe and prepared for the fight with a grin as Kiefer rode off with Dave. Before either Heracoal or Floki could react the Grinning man introduced himself " My name is Simon, and ill be your executioner today." then he lunged forward and was suddenly staring Floki in the face even though he had started 60 feet away. He then was shocked by Heracoal’s club catching him in the back before he tripped both Floki and Heracoal and was again 60 feet away. Floki sat up and shot his crossbow at Simon, who dodged out of the way with ease. seeing this Floki looked at Heracoal and yelled " Throw me!" as he tossed his crossbow aside and pulled out his dagger. Simon started to run towards Floki with his scythe raised and took a swing at the bird man. He caught him with a light cut as Floki cut him back with his dagger, after dancing around each other for a bit longer Simon tried to cut Heracoal and run, however Heracoal caught him with a swing of his club that he had put all of his strength behind and that coupled with Simon’s immense speed left a splatter on the far wall with such force that a bit of his blood came back and caught Heracoal across the face. Alas thus ends poor Simon and the pair continue forward to retrieve Dave. After finally beating Simon the group went to track down Kiefer, still determined to prevent his escape. It didn’t take them long to catch up as the bandit was surrounded by a Viking war party. Upon closer inspection they saw that the Vikings were of the Castain Tribe, great warriors who dealt in slavery among other things and with minimal effort they realized that they were witnessing the sale of Dave… Among the faces they saw, included were John Dee, Wilbur Garroteson, and Axel. as they walked forward they also noticed that things didn’t appear to be going in Keifer’s favor as he and Dave were both being loaded in with the cargo of other slaves. As Heracoal and Floki approach Heracoal demands “Release Dave!” And Floki says “The Great Heracoal has come for his child!” “and frankly, we’ve been through a lot so just give up the kid.” Johnny Dee looked at them both, “If Heracoal will fight in our challenges then he and the child shall be allowed to live in glory in our village with Heracoal as a star in our fights and the child can be raised to be his protoge!” “I already agreed to this, why did you take Dave?” Heracoal said with great annoyance. Johnny Dee looked confused for a moment then a dawning of realization hit him, “we didn’t take the child, we merely had put out a request for recruits and all sorts of people reply to those, as such, clearly this imbecile (as he motioned to Kiefer and his guards threw Kiefer at Heracoals feet) thought to benefit from our offer and chose an ill means of getting it. As such by our laws and needless to say for the benefit of our moral you may have your first fight here against this man before we head back to the island, should you win, his life is yours to do with as you please.” Meanwhile Floki started rambling about how Heracoal would kill this guy and their lives can finally be happy again when they have Dave. “and Dave will remain with me?” Heracoal asked. “As agreed” Johnny replied

“Give me Dave and I will Kill this man.” Heracoal demanded. At a nod from Johnny Dee both Dave and Kiefer were set free. Kiefer paused for a moment looking around in confusion before drawing his knives and lunging at Dave, scooping him up to use as a human shield and attempting to stab Heracoal in the process.
“And now we reach the part of the show where we all kill this monster” said Floki
Kiefer managed to get a blade to barely kiss one of Heracoals biceps. Floki came up behind him and tried to stab him but managed to put a thin red line on one of Dave’s forarms unleashing a torrent of tears and a loud wail from the Babearian that rapidly turned into a cry of fury as he started to kick and flail against his captor. Dave kicked Kiefer squarly in the groin causing him to drop to a knee in perfect time for heracoal to swing his club with all his might as though playing golf with an oversized ball… sure enough his head snapped back as his face shattered and he fell straight back limp and lifeless with Dave sitting on his chest still beating the pulp of a head with fists of rage splashing the remaining blood over everything nearby. when Dave finally calmed down, he was picked up by Heracoal and they boarded the boat with their new companions to head to their new home and the adventures that awaited them as members of the Castain tribe.

Finally Finding Dave
Search for the Babearian
Heracoal looked at the smeared mess and shrugged. " We need to find Dave" and walked away from the mess to continue onward. Meanwhile, Floki was laughing hard leaning against the wall for support before he realized he was about to be left behind and scampered after Heracoal quickly. After wandering through many more hallways and following the only tracks in the dust they come to a fork in the tunnels and find the footprints have appeared to go down both paths with certainty Heracoal points to the right path and charges ahead to find Dave. After about thirty feet Floki realized that these footprints are different than the previous ones being these were someone walking on the balls of their feet and the previous ones were someone who was lightly dragging their heels. upon tactfully pointing this out to Heracoal, Heracoal shrugged and charged back to the fork and took the left path this time. After another couple of hours of wandering they came to an area where the torches lighting the tunnel became more common and eventually the tunnel opened into a large chamber. All they could see from the hallway into the chamber was some of the expanse and a body of water ten feet from the entrance. Floki went back to grab a torch off the right wall only to find that it wouldn’t budge. he went to the torch on the left wall of the hall and it lifted free with ease… suddenly there was a rumbling from around them as the chamber started to shake and dust fell from the ceiling. Floki placed the torch back and the rumbling continued, so he proceeded to take the torch and walk towards the water looking around warily with the torch held high to try to pierce the darkness. From there he can see a small dock about fifty feet further around the body of water in the chamber, where one boat is docked and another looks to have been moored until recently. Looking to Heracoal Floki asked; “so, do we take a boat or kill a room? I am up for either but i prefer the first one.” Heracoal said :“take a boat.” and headed to the boat. After getting to the boat and Floki cutting the rope to free the boat, as the boat lurches forward at the release of the rope, Floki starts to fall in when Heracoal grabs his belt and gets him stablized in the boat as it heads towards what now sounds like a group of people preparing for a fight and the muffled noises that only Dave could make.
The Goat's Beard
Finding the Babearian

as they ran the rest of the way down the stairs, Ulfgrim decided to try to jump over the boulder and ended up leaving a red line that looked as though it had been brushed on with a fur brush.

The Trail of The Theif
Finding the Babearian

Heracoal arrived at the West Gate with his companions, and manages to see the as a recently jostled guard straightens himself before taking another swig and standing back upright in his post with a slight sway and a secretive grin on his face.
“Where did they go?” Heracoal demanded.
The guard looked confused as the smile faded a bit and his eyes tracked to the large man in front of him. " Whrrd hoo go?" he slurred inquisitively.
“Who knocked you over!?”
“Pssshhhh. I just stumed a bit, but dnt wory stizn, ima cumpuletedly aware, taint nooobuddy gittn trough ta git.” He seemed to struggle a bit to find the right words as he said them, but managed after some effort, and looked mighty proud of the accomplishment as he was sure no one could tell he had been drinking.
Ulfgrim said: " Apparently you missed a couple people and a baby." he then asked “Which way did they go please?” through mostly gritted fangs.
“Twere no bubby, ida sen a bubby. Wat yooo ben havin ti noght? kin i has sum? shhhhhhh… I wont even till, i kep gud secreets.” and again he smiled as though this conversation was a grand accomplishment in once again proving he must be completely sober and helpful to these kind confused folks.
Heracoal grabbed the guard and slammed him against the nearest wall and held him there as Ulfgrim came up behind and slapped the guard.
“hu hu hu, me wifey hits herder… that wus a luv tap. but ifn yoo wnat, i can gives yoo specal atenton in back at sunrise wen my sift is uver…” then proceeds to wink and grin directly at Ulfgrim.
Heracoal grabs the guard’s face and slams the back of his head into the wall, there is a sickening crunch and as he slides down the wall leaving a streak of blood and they hear his last gasp " Hunny, i cunt cum hum… i wuv yo." as he fades into the sweet bliss of death’s caress.
Heracoal moved along to continue searching for Dave, ignoring the body, followed by hooter, and Ulfgrim followed after quickly searching the guard’s body and finding generic leather guard armor, a generic longsword, and a letter tucked into his helmet. Taking the letter and running, he soon catches his companions as they are headed onto the road to Terrovis. The road is crowded as people are looking on in horror at the jovial “guard” who had kept their city “safe” for many a year. After a short while of stunned silence, a woman came out of the crowd and demanded “Why?! Why did you kill the city Drunkard? he brought life and amusement for us all, and in turn we kept him cared for at least enough to survive!” then turning to the crowd she yelled " I bet the Mayor and his kind are behind this, just another way to make our lives harder and more insufferable!"
Heracoal yelled “Who took the child!?” but no one seemed to hear him as they started to chant “Kill the mayor! Time for a new way of life! We’re not gonna take it!”
Heracoal started grabbing at the nearest person in order to hopefully interrogate them, while Hooter tried to talk to the woman and calm her by explaining that “He (Heracoal) is like a mother who has lost a child…” before the rest of his speech was lost in her cries for revolution. Meanwhile, Ulfgrim tried yelling to the crowd: " The Mayor’s men have taken our baby and gone that way!" pointing towards the road to Terrovis, but both were ignored as the citizens started to charge the city, however, the man that was grabbed by Heracoal had rapidly relieved himself in the road and was very willing to bargain for his life. “Please sir, dont kill me, I am but a humble farmer. And I’d be honored to aid you in any way that I can.”
Seeing Heracoal and the grabbed man, Hooter said to himself: “oh damn, someone’s going to die.”
Heracoal said" Someone took my child, where did they go?"
the man looked nervously from side to side, before saying;" I can’t say for sure, but there are dark rumors about the road ahead of you. We folk who live along this road are always sure to have our families safe in our homes when the sun is down, especially the children. The stories tell of beasts that snatch children in the night and turn them over to their cruel masters to become more beasts like them. some even say that the dark masters may be the demon princes, rumored to have power in our realm."
“And where are they rumored to be?” Heracoal asked.
" In the Stygian Sylva, in the darkest depths of it in a grove where plants sing eerie tunes, and animals can’t live, and only the mad may find. They say the stygian children are an attempt at bringing back the natural life this world had before our gods put us here. But none have ever entered and lived to leave there." The farmer said with an edge of nerves still in his voice.
“They just passed by!” Heracoal exclaimed in forceful agitation.
“Sir, there was such a crowd that i cant say where anyone may have gone, I haven’t noticed anyone running with a child as i went about my way, but honestly, when headed to town I try to keep my head down as much as possible so as not to incur the wrath of any highborn that could be passing through to visit the city.” the farmer said almost apologetically.
Ulfgrim suggested that " Maybe if we continue in the direction we were headed before we can check the forest along the way and see if we can find Dave."
As they start heading to go along the path that leads to the woods, Hooter pointed out a pair of child sized footprints beside human adult sized prints that were nearly invisible untill he sees where there are slight scuff marks presumably from the child being picked up and carried and at that point the prints start to look like many of the other sets that litter the ground. as they follow the footprints a little ways they see that the footprints lead back into the city. Heracoal leads the way following the prints until they lead back to the Goat’s Beard Inn. As the group enters the inn, it is rather quiet, especially since it is a couple hours after sunset, and there is a significant lack of patrons and staff. the place seems deserted and feels almost haunted. Upon closer inspection,Hooter notices a light coming faintly from the back store room, and Heracoal notices as they get back there that the wooden paneling on one section of the wall doesn’t match the rest. after trying to use finesse to get the wall open, Heracoal loses patience and opens it by way of his personal master skeleton key. (His Club) behind the wall there is a dark stone stairway and a light breeze carrying a rank odor that is almost moldy and musky. As they go down the deep dark stairway, they step on a stair that sinks the slightest bit, and all three of them move out of the way as a dagger flies past their heads and strikes the ground behind them.
“Whoever is throwing the daggers, that’s very rude!” said Hooter.
They then hear the sound of stone grating against stone and something heavy hits a wall further up the stairway shaking the tunnel around them. followed by a massive rumbling with more grating of stone on stone. And the group continues down the steps armed and ready to attack

The Fortnight of "Rest"
Escape From Deimos

While they stayed at the Goat’s Beard inn over the next two weeks Ulfgrim healed, Heracoal trained and started including Dave in it as well, and Hooter started to work on learning to translate his writings into the vikish tongue of the Castain tribe.
This went on for the first week and a half before One night whilst they slept, someone managed to sneak into their room and kidnap Dave!!! The next morning when they woke up, they saw that he was gone. They looked around for clues, when Ulfgrim started to head downstairs after noticing scuffs on the wall showing that the kidnapper likely had trouble. both muffling and moving Dave. Heracoal starts rushing downstairs as well, and they all burst into the dining area at the same time causing the old proprieter to look up from his work startled.
" is there… a problem… with… your.. a… a…. acccomm… accomo… … … rooms?" He asked in the slow unsure lilt of the elderly.
" Who Took Dave?" Heracoal Asked bluntly.
“ma… ve? No ma…ve …here… She … she.. le…le…left m… me.. years.. a…ago.”
DAVE, THe Child I was With!”
Ulfgrim chimed in with a description of Dave. " yea tall, liked feathers"
“Oh!… said The innkeeper, " The B… Ba… baby… h…h…he wen…t home wi…th his mo…mo…mother last night."
Ulfgrim replied “His Mother Was Dead.”
The color drained from the innkeeper’s face. " The.. the. d…d..dead are…ri…ris…rising?! “NO! Mave, I swear it wasn’t me!” he shouted in a fit of momentary clarity.
“Where did they go?” Heracoal asked forcefully
" Ho…Ho…How would I…know? came the fearful reply. “They a… are…dead.”
In a fit of anger Heracoal slammed his maul against the counter, splitting the wood almost all the way through.
Ulfgrim slammed a knife into the table, “They aren’t dead! we are wondering where they went!”
The inn keeper fell as all the displays of anger were just too much for his heart to handle.
Heracoal stormed out into the street with his club in hand, as the other two trailed behind.
Ulfgrim started yelling at the top of his lungs “Where the hell is our baby!!!”
People walking in the streets started scurrying away after seeing the two armed people moving along thoroughly enraged.
One small person came timidly up behind the group “ahem! excuse me sirs…” a small boy probably no older that 6, wearing rags shared, “if you hurry you can catch them. I only wish someone cared for me the way you all care for that kid.” He then smiled and pointed towards the west gate of the town, " they were headed that way sirs, to the coast…"
Heracoal started sprinting towards that gate of town, as Ulfgrim leaned down to talk to the boy. “Thank you very much, your kindness is greatly appreciated.” then he headed after Heracoal.
Hooter looked at the boy and as he prepared to run as well, he asked the boy," do you know how to get to the coast?" The boy replied, “of course i do…”
“Do you wanna come with us? Hooter asked. “we are heading to the Castain Tribe eventually.”
The child screamed " you monsters! not that! I hope you never find him then!" and he proceeded to run off in the opposite direction.
Hooter headed towards the west gate finally following his friends.

The Fights of The Castain
Escape From Deimos

As Hearacoal walked up to the ring the crowd drew back to give a bit more room, they had an anticipation about them just waiting to see the man fight the beast. Jonny Dee Yelled to the crowd, riling them up; “All right everybody! Hold on to your hats! Prepare to catch an arm, and good luck to our combatants! Place your bets with The fine giant over there! (as he pointed to Wilbur) Aaaaannnnd! FIGHT!!!”

Heracoal started by moving at a small jog and swinging his right fist at ulfgrim’s face, Ulfgrim swayed in an attempt to dodge, and ended up putting his body square in line for the blow. however, in his stumbling from the first blow he managed to be out of the way of Heracoal’s second swing. Then Ulfgrim being as tough as he is managed to get his bearings back and managed to trip Heracoal before getting down beside him and attempting to bite him, but Heracoal rolled out of the way and stood up then tried to stomp on Ulfgrims head, but Ulfgri dodged out of the way, however he was unable to avoid Heracoal falling on him elbow first. Letting out a gasp of pain Ulfgrim tries to bite Heracoal, when Wilber Garroteson grabs Heracoal by the shoulder and lifts him to his feet before walking forward with him and stepping on Ulfgrim causing him to pass out from the pain. Johnny Dee came forth and yelled: “Ladies and Gentlemen! We have our victor!!!” Who else is prepared to fight for the glory offered by the Castain Tribe?" as women start dancing around Heracoal showering him in their affections.Though a few men start to step forward, they take one look at Heracoal and decide better of it. Seeing this, Johnny Dee reassures the crowd; “Dont worry folks, we bring up pairs only, no one else will have to fight this fine hulk today. Surely some of you can earn Glory for yourselves?!” At this several pairs of volunteers come forward and the fights continue on as Johnny Dee heads over to Heracoal. "If you would come with me fine sir, we should discuss your future… "
“Hooter! Come here, and bring That other one.” said Heracoal, as he motioned to Ulfgrim, who started to stir.
The leader of our tribe is following a long tradition in having sent one of my ilk to all other lands to find fighters for Glory in the Pit back home. You are cordially invited to come join us there if you would so desire, as you would be treated as the kings of other lands are treated."
Skeptically Heracoal asked: “are the rules the same as here?”
Johnny Replied: “There they are much more dire, as we leave it up to the people whether the loser lives or dies, but the people of our tribe can be a bit more bloodthirsty than the weak willed folk of this land.”
Heracoal: “And are we allowed to use our weapons there?”
Johnny dee got a large grin on his face, “of course, here we have to tame it down for those same weak willed masses. Back home we can be as violent as possible in the pit.”
“Sounds like a dream come true so long as my herald and squire are allowed to come with” said Heracoal, returning the smile.
“of course they are, but are you sure you wish to take a child into our realm? growing up there, especially son to a champion is not easy…” cautioned Johnny as he motioned to Dave.
Heracoal asked: " how is it worse than being raised under a mercenary?"
“Well,” came the reply, “as a mercenary you choose your opponents, jobs, etc. and decide what level of risk you can handle either with the child or with risk of not returning to the child. With the Pit, you don’t have that choice. while you are kept as well as any king, you also have a schedule of fights and they are against whoever is found to challenge you. Also, while we choose our leaders democratically there is little in the way of safety in our tribe as we tend towards more dangerous hobbies and attitudes in general. Now, I’m not by any means saying don’t come, but be sure you know that you are man enough to handle both the opponents in the ring and this fine boy before you come.”
Heracoal: “We have been caring for Dave for many weeks now, and he is doing fine. And whether he is raised by a mercenary or a champion he will grow to be strong for he is Dave the Babearian.”
Johnny: “We leave in a fortnight. Settle any affairs and be ready to join us back at this stage.”

Visiting Drahk
Escape From Deimos

After another two weeks of travel and the whole party becoming extremely good at making and changing diapers, and keeping track of baby Dave during rotating watches through the night, life was peaceful as they continued along the road. However, as they neared the City of Drahk, the road became a bit busier and the crowd looked as though it was almost all the lower, downtrodden members of society. As the day drags on the group works their way to and through the city gates with The help of the sinister reputation that has made Heracoal a recognizable person in the lands, at least to those guards who have talked and allowed rumor to spread ahead of them. As they went to go search for a tavern to stay a night they saw a large group gathered in an open plaza surrounding a man on a stage. Ulfgrim chose a random person from near him in order to attempt to steal whatever valuables they may have had, however he is caught in the act and dragged up to the stage by Wilbur Garroteson who shouted “We have our first volunteer for the evening, a sly weaseling sort, hardly fit to call a warrior, Who wants a warm up round!?”
“What are the rules?” chimed in Heracoal, as he handed Dave to Floki for safe keeping.
The well groomed and good looking gentleman in the center of the stage started to explain: " Both combatants enter the stage, and fight barehanded until only one is standing, then with the help of the crowd i decide if the loser lives or dies, just as it is in our tribe. all victors are welcome to come back and join us for a chance at equal shares in everything we have and earn."
Floki brought his wings out to their full spread and proclaimed " The great Heracoal shall fight!" as he takes the club from Heracoal with Dave secured on his back playing happily with the two new feathers he had just gotten.

Dave Joins The Group AKA 2 1/2 Men
Escape From Deimos

In this realm, the party ran into very few travelers and those they did encounter were usually prisoner escorts or troops being deployed to various fronts of combat. Along the road they found the ruins of several farmhouses that could’ve once been the start to villages, but have been long since abandoned, and after about a week worth of travel they came across a pillar of smoke in the distance along the roadside ahead of them. After a couple more hours of travel the source of the pillar of smoke comes into view and is noticeably a building of some kind. As they approached they saw the “Starved Rabbit” inn still smoldering as the sign out front was the only thing left unburned. As the wind shifted.the stench of burning flesh wafted across the group. Floki tried to use his wings to push away the smell but only managed to swirl the smell around himself further. Heracoal continued moving forward paying no heed to the issue nor showing any sign of concern as it had nothing to do with his objective and the others begin to follow until Heracoal and Ulfgrim stop at the sound of a baby crying somewhere in the direction of the rubble. Ulfgrim asked if they should investigate, and Heracoal offered help in whichever way, as he was simply paid to keep them safe. So while Floki stood watch on the road with his cross bow the other two went to go see about the source of the crying. after minimal searching through the rubble they found a cellar door, which the crying seemed to emanate from. as Ulfgrim grabbed the handle to pull open the door, Hearcoal simply smashed it inward breaking the hinges, at which point the crying became louder and more insistent. Ulfgrim throws the now unattached door handle over his shoulder as he and Heracoal proceed downward into the celler carefully walking past the splinters on the stairway. Ulfgrim decides to flip on his way down the stairs as Heracoal follows behind him. As they reach the bottom of the stairs Heracoal finds the baby that was the source of the crying, a human baby that seemed about a year and a half old at most, who at the sight of Heracoal started to giggle and smile at him. However at the sight of Ulfgrim coming closer it starts to cry again. After discussing a deal and agreeing to Heracoal getting 3/4 of the gold found for the rest of the time he is under their employ Heracoal picked up the child and Ulfgrim started looking for materials to make a sling to make carrying the child easier. While this was happening Floki came down the stairs and the baby started to try to play with his feathers, so he pulled two out and gave them to the child as toys. With joint effort between Ulfgrim and Heracoal the baby was set to ride in the modified sheath for Heracoals maul, and for sake of ease, decided to name the small boy “Dave”. With that Floki, Ulfgrim, Heracoal, and Dave, set out to continue on their path.

The Mercenary Aid
Escape From Deimos

After years of ridicule at the hands of the upper crust of Deimos, and years of scrounging and saving, the Crossblood friends Floki and Ulfgrim manage to hire the mercenary Heracoal to help them escape these frightful lands and go to live with the vikings in one of the tribes to the south. As he is loyal to his employers and prefers not to part with his gold, when they were stopped at the gate and there was an attempt at collecting a fee for them to leave, Heracoal threatened the guards. they let him through but were adamant about getting paid for the other two to leave. begrudgingly they parted to allow the group to leave when one guard stabbed floki in the back, causing a fight to break out. Ulfgrim attempted to flip over the guard blocking his way and wound up getting a cut to the shoulder instead as a reward. Next, Floki regognized the guard he was facing as a friend named phil who he had known on the streets for years and managed to convince the dimwitted guard to sit and chat instead while phile helped to tend to Floki’s wounds. a guard facing down Heracoal stabbed at him and missed allowing Heracoal to catch the blade between his arm and body and hold it there till the guard let go. Then Heracoal swung his mighty whale bone maul and managed to kill both guards near him, snapping their necks in a single swing. the rest of the guards ran off, and phil was allowed to leave in peace before Heracoal looted the purses oif the dead guards and the group continued on their way, hearing the patter of the grave diggers as they came to collect the corpses left in their wake as they headed west towards Drahk.
